Misdirect: The Nick Nemeroff Comedy Grant

Misdirect: The Nick Nemeroff Comedy Grant, is a new grant administered by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television that will see a Canadian comedian awarded $10,000.00 cash, meant to be put towards their next television special, album, or other related comedy initiative.

The project will prioritize emerging comedians who worked within the tradition of the late Nick Nemeroff, a young comedian who used misdirection, word play, and other techniques to push the boundaries of comedy.

A call for applications will take place in the fall of 2023. Applicants will be asked to submit a demo reel which will be judged by a jury of industry professionals, based on a list of predetermined criteria, including but not limited to writing, screen presence, and pacing.

The winning comedian will be awarded the $10,000.00.

All applicants are welcome to apply, but priority will be given to those who express a need for financial assistance and/or those artists who do not currently have a television special.
