Presented to a Canadian individual for their extraordinary impact on the growth of the Canadian media industry.

Academy Icon Award.

Presented to a Canadian individual or institution for their exceptional, ongoing contribution to the media industry at home or abroad.

Changemaker Award.

THIS NEW SPECIAL AWARD RECOGNIZES AND HONOURS THOSE IN THE MEDIA COMMUNITY IN CANADA WHO ARE USING THEIR VOICE OR PLATFORM TO CALL OUT SYSTEMIC RACISM AND DISCRIMINATION; SUPPORTING AND AMPLIFYING THE VOICES OF THOSE WHO ARE ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN ANTI-RACIST WORK; AND SEEKING STRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATIONS IN MEDIA/FILM/TELEVISION ORGANIZATIONS IN CANADA THAT PROMOTE VALUES OF EQUITY AND INCLUSION.

IN AN EFFORT TO BUILD SOLIDARITY AND STRENGTHEN A COMMUNITY OF INDIVIDUALS WHO STAND UP AGAINST RACISM, THE AWARD SIGNALS THE ACADEMY’S COMMITMENT TO FOSTER DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION FOR ALL IN THE MEDIA INDUSTRY. THE AWARD IS INTENDED FOR EMERGING LEADERS IN THEIR EARLY TO MID-CAREERS.

Earle Grey Award.

PRESENTED TO A CANADIAN PERFORMER IN RECOGNITION OF THEIR EXCEPTIONAL BODY OF ACTING WORK IN CANADIAN TELEVISION & FILM.

Must have a minimum of five (5) letters of recommendation submitted to the Academy Board of Directors for consideration.

Gordon Sinclair Award.

PRESENTED TO A CANADIAN BROADCAST JOURNALIST FOR THEIR EXCEPTIONAL BODY OF WORK IN BROADCAST JOURNALISM.

Recommendation requirements:

Must have a minimum of five (5) letters of recommendation submitted to the Academy Board of Directors for consideration.

Humanitarian Award.

Formerly Humanitarian Award for Exceptional Contributions to Community and Public Service (2012-2017), Gemini Humanitarian Award (2001-2011)

Presented in recognition of an extraordinary humanitarian contribution or act of compassion by a professional working in the Canadian media industry in the prior year.

Recommendation requirements:

Must have a minimum of five (5) letters of recommendation submitted to the Academy Board of Directors for consideration.

Industry Leadership Award.

Honouring innovation and leadership in Canada’s media industry. Presented at the discretion of the Academy’s Board of Directors.

Lifetime Achievement Award.

Formerly Academy Achievement Award (1996 – 2013), Academy Special Award (1990-2013), Academy Special Film Award (2013), Special Award (1997-2007), Special Achievement Award (1981-1991), Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award (1993), Air Canada Award (1986-1994), Air Canada Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Canadian Film Industry(1980-1986)

Presented to a Canadian individual for an exceptional lifetime of work that has had a profound impact on the media industry at home or abroad.

Margaret Collier Award.

Presented to a Canadian writer to honour their exceptional body of work in television or film.

Recommendation requirements:

Must have a minimum of five (5) letters of recommendation submitted to the Academy Board of Directors for consideration.

Outstanding Media Innovation Award.

Formerly Digital Media Trailblazing Award (2012-2017), Outstanding Technical Achievement Award (1986-2017), Outstanding Technical Achievement Award in Digital Media (2010-2011), Most Popular Website Competition (2000-2007), Most Innovative Website Competition (2002), Best Technical Achievement (1986-1992)

Presented to honour the successful application of a groundbreaking innovation in the Canadian media industry. Consideration is given to an individual, creative team, and/or to the invention of (or new use for) a mechanical device, programming language, capture method or delivery mechanism for media.

Radius Award.

Presented to a Canadian whose work is making waves globally.
