Murdoch Mysteries

"The Fantastic Mr. Fawkes"

Synopsis:

After the exciting cliffhanger of season 16, Murdoch Mysteries returns with Season 17 and it promises to be the acclaimed series’ most exciting outing yet. Detective Murdoch will use his signature methods––fingermarks, state-of-the-art forensic science, and myriad ingenious inventions––to solve Toronto’s most twisted and mysterious murders. William Murdoch and the Station House #4 ensemble will contend with real historical events and social issues of the early 1900s, as they work together to solve intriguing and entertaining crimes. Season 17 begins with William Murdoch and Julia Ogden racing to discover the true intentions of their mysterious captors in order to escape and resume their lives in Toronto. Constable Crabtree and Effie will find their domestic bliss interrupted by an urgent mission that emerges from Crabtree’s past. Station House #4 will be in a state of tension as Brackenreid’s place in the constabulary remains in question. Llewellyn Watts resumes work as a detective, determined to live his truth and pursue happiness on his own terms. Violet Hart will thrive in her new romance with Isaiah Buchanan, but the future of the Star Bright Club hangs by a thread, as does Violet’s fortune when she is brought to court by the family of her dead husband. Detective Murdoch will meet historical figures such as Emily Carr, Jelly Roll Morton, new Prime Minister Robert Borden, Sun Yat-Sen, and even the Mona Lisa. And he will face brilliant foes and friends alike––James Pendrick and Terence Meyers for starters.

Episode Synopsis:
Murdoch is asked by intrepid spy Terrence Meyers to arrest Louise Cherry for a contentious article she wrote about leading prime ministerial candidate Robert Borden. Murdoch refuses as there are no legal grounds to detain her. But after a recently fired employee of the candidate is found murdered in an alley behind a posh hotel, things get complicated. Murdoch, Brackenreid and Crabtree discover the victim possessed a briefcase with a false bottom stuffed with documents clearly leaked for the story. Murdoch then learns the victim telephoned Borden shortly before his death making the future prime minister the prime suspect.
