2021 Prism Prize Top 10 shortlist unveiled

Toronto, June 9, 2021 – Today, the Prism Prize unveiled the Top 10 Canadian music videos shortlisted for the Grand Prize, to be announced during the 2021 Prism Prize virtual presentation on Monday, July 26, 2021.

“The music videos in this year’s Prism Prize Top 10 represent the magic that can be borne out of raw and vulnerable artistic collaboration,” said Louis Calabro, VP, Programming & Awards at the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and Founder of Prism Prize. “We are honoured to bring well-deserved recognition to these artists.”

Each year the Prism Prize jury reviews more than 300 eligible Canadian music videos and votes to determine the Top 20 (announced on April 29, 2021) and this Top 10 shortlist. One of these groundbreaking displays of visual excellence will be named the Grand Prize winner and awarded $20,000, while all other creative teams on the Top 10 shortlist will receive $1,000 courtesy of Patron partner Slaight Music.

Although the Grand Prize will be awarded from the Top 10 shortlist, all videos from the 2021 Prism Prize Top 20 are eligible for the Audience Award. Voting is currently open, with members of the public encouraged to vote for their favourite video from the Top 20 to help determine the recipient of this annual award. Fans can vote through Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at prismprize.com.

Along with the Grand Prize and Audience Award winners, the 2021 Prism Prize virtual presentation will also recognize several Special Award recipients. Honourees will be announced for the Hi-Fidelity Award, established to recognize recording artists who utilize music video in innovative ways; the Lipsett Award, established to celebrate a unique approach to music video art; the Special Achievement Award, presented by Slaight Music, established to recognize an exceptional contribution to music video art on the world stage; and the Willie Dunn Award, supported by Telefilm Canada, presented to a Canadian trailblazer who has demonstrated excellence within the music, music video and/or film production communities, in the lead-up to the presentation.

The 2021 Prism Prize will take place on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 8:00 PM ET, streamed live on PrismPrize.com, and the Prism Prize Twitter and YouTube channels.

ABOUT PRISM PRIZE
The Prism Prize is a national, juried award recognizing outstanding artistry in Canadian music videos, offering the largest cash prize in the world for music videos. Established in 2012, this annual honour gathers a jury of more than 130 Canadian music and film industry professionals to crown one video as the best of the year. The Prism Prize is a division of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, an organization that shares the common goal of promoting and supporting homegrown Canadian creative projects while inspiring and developing the next generation of talent.

Toronto, le 9 juin 2021 – Les 10 vidéoclips canadiens finalistes au prix Prism 2021 sont dévoilés aujourd’hui. Le vidéoclip gagnant du grand prix sera annoncé dans le cadre de la présentation virtuelle du prix Prism 2021, le lundi 26 juillet 2021.

« Les 10 vidéoclips finalistes au prix Prism illustrent que la magie peut naître de collaborations artistiques crues et vulnérables », a affirmé Louis Calabro, vice-président, programmation et prix à l’Académie canadienne du cinéma et de la télévision et fondateur du prix Prism. « Nous sommes honorés d’offrir cette reconnaissance bien méritée à ces artistes. »

Chaque année, le jury du prix Prism évalue plus de 300 vidéoclips canadiens admissibles et vote pour déterminer les 20 meilleurs (annoncés le 29 avril 2021), puis les 10 finalistes (dévoilés aujourd’hui). L’une de ces démonstrations audacieuses d’excellence visuelle se verra décernée le grand prix de 20 000 $, tandis que toutes les équipes créatives des 10 vidéoclips finalistes obtiendront un prix de 1 000 $ chacune, gracieuseté de Slaight Music, grand partenaire du programme.

Même si le grand prix sera décerné parmi les 10 finalistes, les 20 meilleurs vidéoclips du prix Prism sont admissibles au prix du public. Le vote est officiellement ouvert et l’Académie invite les membres du public à voter pour leur vidéoclip préféré parmi la liste des 20 finalistes afin de déterminer le vidéoclip récipiendaire de ce prix annuel. Les fans peuvent voter jusqu’au mercredi 23 juin 2021 à prismprize.com.

En plus des lauréats du grand prix et du prix du public, la présentation virtuelle du prix Prism 2021 célébrera aussi plusieurs récipiendaires de prix spéciaux. Les récipiendaires des prix suivants seront annoncés avant la présentation principale : le prix Haute-fidélité (établi pour récompenser un.e artiste qui utilise l’art du vidéoclip de façon innovatrice); le prix Lipsett (établi pour souligner une approche unique de l’art du vidéoclip); le prix pour contribution exceptionnelle (présenté par Slaight Music et établi pour reconnaître une contribution exceptionnelle à l’art du vidéoclip sur la scène mondiale) et le prix Willie-Dunn (soutenu par Téléfilm Canada et présenté à un.e artiste canadien.ne précurseur.e qui a fait preuve d’excellence dans le secteur de la musique, du vidéoclip ou de la production cinématographique).

La cérémonie du prix Prism 2021 aura lieu le lundi 26 juillet 2021 à 20 h (HE) et sera diffusée en direct au PrismPrize.com, ainsi que dans le fil Twitter du prix Prism et sur sa chaîne YouTube.
