The Secret Path

Synopsis:

In 1966, 12-year-old Chanie Wenjack ran away from Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School in Kenora, Canada, and set out to walk home along the railway tracks to Ogoki Post – over 600 kilometres away. This animated program tells his story in 10 chapters, each set to the music and poems written by Canadian rock icon Gord Downie and animated from the illustrations in the graphic novel by Jeff Lemire. The animation is bookended by poignant documentary footage of Downie visiting Chanie’s surviving family in Ogoki Post.
