Canadian Screen Arts Festival

The Academy’s Canadian Screen Arts Festival is a curated screening series that offers the best in contemporary filmmaking.


This exclusive event series will feature five Canadian Screen Award nominated films that epitomize the best in Canadian visual storytelling. Every Saturday leading up to the live Canadian Screen Awards broadcast on March 31 will see a different film being screened, with each screening set to include door prizes, special guests, or pre-taped content created especially for the series by the filmmakers. Screenings take place from coast-to-coast-to-coast, with events each Saturday in Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, St John’s, and Iqaluit.

Based on the absurd but true 1973 hostage crisis in Stockholm that was the origins of the psychological phenomenon, the ‘Stockholm Syndrome’. The black comedy focuses on a female bank employee (Noomi Rapace) who falls for her captor, an unhinged American outlaw (Ethan Hawke) as she turns against the police and aids in his escape attempt.
