Media Veteran Gary Slaight joins ACCT Board
ACCT Chair Martin Katz is pleased to announce that Gary Slaight, President/CEO Slaight Communications, has joined ACCT’s Board of Directors, effective immediately.
“Gary brings vast expertise in music, broadcasting, communications and media to the Academy,” said Katz, Prospero Pictures’ founder & President, following today’s ACCT Board meeting and Annual General Meeting (AGM). “Gary’s many talents complement those of ACCT’s new Board as we prepare the 32nd annual Genie Awards on March 8, 2012.”
Slaight said he is “honoured” to join the new ACCT Board and was inspired to do so because of its high level of commitment to spotlighting excellence in Canadian film, TV and digital media.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to be part of a Board that dedicates itself to celebrating outstanding Canadian talent in all screen-based industries,” said Slaight. “I really believe that the Academy can make a difference.”
Updated Genie Rules Now Online:
“We are delighted to announce that the 32nd annual Genie Awards will take place Thursday March 8 in Toronto and that the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is now open for entries,” says Helga Stephenson, ACCT Interim CEO
The new ACCT Governance Committee (listed online) has made some modifications to the Genie rules, including new regulations to accommodate smaller businesses and new independent filmmakers.
“We are doing our best to be all-inclusive,” says Stephenson. “It is important that all Canadian films have the opportunity to compete in the Genie Awards and we hope these modifications will make it easier for all filmmakers to participate in Genies32.”
Modifications include a reduced entry fee for short films and a reduced entry fee for feature films with budgets under $1.25 million. Also for the first time, feature films that have screened in two Academy-approved Canadian film festivals (also listed online), without a theatrical screening, will be eligible.
"The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (ACCT) congratulates all Gemini Award Winners whose honours were selected by all eligible voting ACCT Members." ~ Helga Stephenson, Interim CEO ACCT
