Types of Membership

The Academy has four types of membership with varying eligibility requirements.

Note: The Academy offers discounts on membership dues if a single organisation purchases ten or more memberships at the same time. Please contact your local office for more information.

Voting Membership

The Genie Awards, Gemini Awards, and les prix Gémeaux are based on a peer-voting system - voting members are an integral part of this process! In addition to voting for these annual awards, voting members participate in awards committees and juries throughout the year, and vote for the Board of Directors. Eligibility is determined through a credit system outlined in Voting Divisions & Branches.

Eligibility:

• Requires both a Division (Cinema and/or Television) and a Branch affiliation
• May belong to both the Cinema and Television Divisions
• May belong to as many Branches as desired, provided that the required credits are met

Entitled to all membership benefits including voting privileges for the Awards

Annual Fee: $150.00 plus applicable taxes

Friend of the Academy (Non-voting)

Eligibility:

• An individual who is not otherwise eligible, or does not wish to become a voting member

Entitled to all membership benefits except:

• Awards voting privileges
• Board of Directors voting privileges

Annual Fee: $100.00 plus applicable taxes

Student Membership

Eligibility:

• Currently enrolled in a film, television, or media program at a Canadian post-secondary institution
• Valid student I.D. required
• Membership can be renewed up to one year after graduation

Entitled to all member benefits except:

• Awards voting privileges
• Board of Directors voting privileges

Annual Fee: $25.00 plus applicable taxes
