GEMINI26 NUMBERS UP! GENIE32 UP NEXT!
Our Gemini26 Awards numbers were up and we are already looking at ways to improve next year’s Gemini27. We’re planning to hold our first new Awards Governance Committee meeting for the Gemini rules in November and we’re hoping to roll out the new regulations by the end of this year. Suggestions welcome.
Gemini26 Broadcast Viewership Increased by 11%
An estimated 400,000 viewers tuned in to the televised broadcast on September 7 on CBC Television—an 11% increase from last year’s numbers! More viewers continue to watch the show online at www.cbc.ca/live/videos.
Gemini26 Web Traffic up by 42% & Members loved WebCast of PresserThis year GeminiAwards.ca received 42% more visits than in 2010. And our Members (especially outside Toronto) showed us they loved the first webcast of a Press Conference (Aug. 3) as nearly 1,700 tuned in to watch the announcement of the Nominees… Good to Know… Stay tuned for more live news via the Internet in 2012.
Exceeded Gemini26 Ticket Sales Projections
Tickets were in high demand this year, as the Academy presented three sold-out shows with waiting lists for tickets. The Industry Night Galas hosted 1,700 guests and the Broadcast Gala entertained 900, the latter including some fans from the general public. We maxed out the venues.
Gemini26 Industry Night Gala Format Praised
It seems we have a hit with the “Golden Globes style” show format for our Industry Night Galas, both produced by Barry Avrich. The shows included entertainers, a banquet dinner and a red carpet entrance for all of 1,700 guests over two nights and the feedback was stellar.
Genie32 Up Next in 2012!
Meanwhile, as promised, the Academy created a new Awards Governance Committee composed of representatives from the nation’s Unions, Guilds, Associations and industry members to review the rules and regulations of the Awards’ shows. We began with the Genie rules as Genie32 is just around the corner (March 2012) and the newly revised regulations will be posted online shortly.
