About the ACCT

Established in 1979, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is a national, non-profit, professional association dedicated to the promotion, recognition, and celebration of exceptional achievements in Canadian film and television. Unifying professionals across Canada, the ACCT is a vital and integral force, representing all areas of the film and television industries.

Our mandate is to:

  • Honour outstanding achievements in Canadian film and television;
  • Heighten public awareness and increase audience attendance, viewership, and appreciation of Canadian film and television productions through its national Award programs: The Genie Awards, The Gemini Awards and Les Prix Gémeaux
  • Preserve and promote Canada’s film and television heritage;
  • Provide wide range of industry-related professional development programs

Structure

A National Board of Directors, comprised of 22 volunteer members representing all areas of the film and television industries, oversees the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. The organization and Awards shows are supported by numerous volunteer committees consisting of Academy members and leading industry professionals. The administration is led by the CEO with offices in Vancouver, Toronto and Montréal.
