Formerly Academy Special Tribute (2009-2013)

Presented to a Canadian individual for their extraordinary impact on the growth of the Canadian media industry.

RECOMMENDATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation submitted to the Academy Board of Directors for consideration.

Presented to a Canadian individual or institution for their exceptional, ongoing contribution to the media industry at home or abroad.

This special award recognizes and honours those in the media community in Canada who are using their voice or platform to call out systemic racism and discrimination; supporting and amplifying the voices of those who are actively engaged in anti-racist work; and seeking structural transformations in media/film/television organizations in Canada that promote values of equity and inclusion.

In an effort to build solidarity and strengthen a community of individuals who stand up against racism, the award signals the Academy’s commitment to foster diversity, equity and inclusion for all in the media industry.

Presented to a Canadian performer in recognition of their exceptional body of acting work in Canadian television & film.

Presented to a Canadian broadcast journalist for their exceptional body of work in broadcast journalism.

RECOMMENDATION REQUIREMENTS:

Formerly Humanitarian Award for Exceptional Contributions to Community and Public Service (2012-2017), Gemini Humanitarian Award (2001-2011)

Presented in recognition of an extraordinary humanitarian contribution or act of compassion by a professional working in the Canadian media industry.

RECOMMENDATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a minimum of five (5) letters of recommendation submitted to the Academy Board of Directors for consideration.

Honouring innovation and leadership in Canada’s media industry. Presented at the discretion of the Academy’s Board of Directors.

RECOMMENDATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation submitted to the Academy Board of Directors for consideration.

Formerly Academy Achievement Award (1996-2013), Academy Special Award (1990-2013), Academy Special Film Award (2013), Special Award (1997-2007), Special Achievement Award (1981-1991), Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award (1993), Air Canada Award (1986-1994), Air Canada Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Canadian Film Industry (1980-1986)

Presented to a Canadian individual for an exceptional lifetime of work that has had a profound impact on the media industry at home or abroad.

RECOMMENDATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation submitted to the Academy Board of Directors for consideration.

Presented to a Canadian writer to honour their exceptional body of work in television or film.

RECOMMENDATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a minimum of five (5) letters of recommendation submitted to the academy board of directors for consideration.

Formerly Digital Media Trailblazing Award (2012-2017), Outstanding Technical Achievement Award (1886-2017), Outstanding Technical Achievement Award in Digital Media (2010-2011), Most Popular Website Competition (2000-2007), Most Innovative Website Competition (2002), Best Technical Achievement (1986-1992)

Presented to honour the successful application of a groundbreaking innovation in the Canadian media industry. Consideration is given to an individual, creative team, and/or to the invention of (or new use for) a mechanical device, programming language, capture method or delivery mechanism for media.

RECOMMENDATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation submitted to the Academy Board of Directors for consideration.

Presented to a Canadian whose work is making waves globally.

RECOMMENDATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation submitted to the Academy Board of Directors for consideration.

To recognize a production that has shown excellence in sustainable production and has had a measurable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and/or innovations in circularity, and has also contributed positively to the Canadian media landscape and local communities.

The Academy’s Sustainability Committee created the Sustainable Production Award in collaboration with the Sustainable Production Forum to recognize productions demonstrating leadership, innovation, excellent performance, and commitment to integrating sustainable production practices. This award will serve to celebrate and inspire those who work in the Canadian media landscape and challenge the industry to strive for excellence in sustainable production.

RECOMMENDATION REQUIREMENTS:

The Academy Sustainability committee will engage with and select a group of productions that meet the criteria for the award. The selected productions will submit their criteria documents for the award, including all forms and certificates supporting their sustainable practices during production.

The Studio/Production must demonstrate that they incorporated sustainable production practices on set, which may come in the form of a case study, wrap reports, certifications (B Corp etc.), a confirmation/completion of sustainable production tools – Albert Carbon Calculator and Certification, Production Environmental Accounting Report (PEAR), Production Environmental Action Checklist (PEACH) etc. Further documentation may be required.
